NORTH AMERICAN TOURS

In addition to breathtaking views, a trip to the Grand Canyon offers a multi-dimensional history lesson. Take in history at the Grand Canyon’s South Rim

The South Rim offers one of the best Grand Canyon experiences for travelers on Arizona tours, allowing adventurers to learn about the park’s cultural and physical history.

In the Grand Canyon Village, travelers can visit the Historic District, an area of the village built by the Sante Fe Railroad in the early 1900s. Also in the village is the Hopi House. Originally built and inhabited by Hopi tribe members, the house was a place where park visitors could watch Hopi artisans and purchase their handiwork. Now a National Historic Landmark, visitors can still visit the uninhabited house today.

With 11 tribes culturally affiliated with the canyon, visitors are likely to find ancient artifacts on many of the canyon’s trails. In one study that covered about five percent of the park, more than 4,000 items were uncovered, with some artifacts dating back almost 12,000 years.

The perfect finish to any day at the canyon is watching a beautiful sunset. As the westernmost spot on the South Rim, Hermit’s Rest is one of the best places to do this. While there, visitors can check out the stone construction designed by Mary Colter, one of America’s first acclaimed female architects.
