Go hog-wild at the Calgary Stampede

Travelers going on a tour of Canada during the summer can mosey on down to the Calgary Stampede, a world-famous rodeo that takes place in Alberta every July.

Over the course of ten days, the so-called "Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth" wows visitors with an enormous rodeo, a parade, a midway, numerous stage shows, concerts, agricultural competitions, chuckwagon races and presentations from Canada's indigenous First Nations.

In particular, the rodeo is truly the biggest attraction at the Stampede, drawing more than 1 million visitors every year. With a total prize jackpot of more than $2 million - including $1 million distributed on championship day alone - the event draws the biggest names in the world of cow-wrangling, bull-riding and other rodeo disciplines.

The Stampede is an integral part of the identity of Calgary, and people who attend the event celebrate by donning their finest western outfits. Visitors on a Canada tour can check out folks wearing everything from cowboy boots to 10-gallon hats as they feast at the Stampede's famous pancake breakfasts and outdoor barbecues.
