Hit the links or take the ring while touring Costa del Sol

Costa del Sol translates to Coast of the Sun, and travelers on Spain tours who visit the region will indeed find miles of beautiful Mediterranean beaches where they can soak up some rays. However, the area also boasts many cultural attractions, mouth-watering food and opportunities for sporting adventure.

Malaga is one of Costa del Sol's main cities and was the birthplace of Pablo Picasso. The city's Picasso Museum is a converted Renaissance palace that houses more than 200 pieces, including paintings, drawings, sculpture and ceramics. In the city center, the Malaga Cathedral is another significant example of Renaissance design.

After taking in these cultural sites, travelers might feast on exquisitely prepared fresh seafood, such as grilled red mullet, shellfish soup or the city's celebrated fried fish.

Those who would rather hit the links than surf the waves might head from Malaga to Marbella, where there are more than nine golf courses. The Marbella Club won the 2008 World Travel Award for best European resort.

Though smaller than the bullring in Seville, the ring in the Costa del Sol town of Ronda rivals the beauty of Seville's. Completed in 1784, the ring hosts a yearly historical reenactment in which matadors dress like the dashing figures painted by Goya in the 18th century.
