Get in touch with the ancient past at Jabal al-Qal'a in Amman
People visiting Amman during a tour of Jordan can connect with the past at Jabal al-Qal'a, a historic site that is one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited places.
Jabal al-Qal'a, also known as the Citadel, was first settled more than 7,000 years ago, and archaeological digs at the site have found that it was a major center for the birth of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Over the course of millennia, the historic attraction has housed radically different cultures, been decimated by earthquakes, lived under the rule of famous leaders and been besieged during wars.
Visitors to Jabal al-Qal'a can explore a wide range of archaeological features ranging from the everyday to the unique. The site is home to a large number of tombs, arches, walls and stairs, while tourists can also see inspiring structures like the ancient Temple of Hercules.
The Citadel is also home to Jordan's first national Archaeological Museum. Visitors to this facility can see an array of artifacts excavated at both Jabal al-Qal'a and other important ancient Jordanian sites.
