Dive into an Egypt tour in Sinai
Close to the famous Red Sea resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh, the Ras Mohammed National Park provides travelers on a tour of Egypt a magnificent marine playground to romp in while exploring the Sinai Peninsula.
Declared a marine reserve in 1983, Ras Mohammed became Egypt's first national park in 1989. It is located at the southern tip of the Sinai, and its waters host nearly all of the Red Sea's 1,000 fish species, according to Lonely Planet.
Sharks Observatory is among the favorite dive and snorkeling destinations in Ras Mohammed. This stretch of water, beneath a dramatic cliff, is not as rife with shark life as it once was, but adventurers can still spot the sleek predators, as well as other big fish like tunas and jacks. Jacks are also in abundance at the logically named Jackfish Alley dive site, where stingrays are common, as well. Whale sharks and manta rays are sighted less frequently, but lucky visitors sometimes have a close encounter with these giants of the deep.
Hotels are not allowed in the park, so visitors will likely return to Sharm el-Sheikh for lodging. While there are kid-friendly, fun resorts in Sharm el-Sheikh, the town also boasts some of the most luxurious, exclusive hotels in the world.
