Visit the impressive Kata Tjuta mountain in Australia
Travelers visiting the "land down under" on a private Australia tour can see one of the country's most well-known natural attractions by visiting the mountainous area of Kata Tjuta located in the Northern Territory state. This visually striking natural hallmark is part of the Uluru-Kata Tjuta national park.
Kata Tjuta, also referred to as the Olgas by some, is not a single mountain but rather a group of many fairly low-rising, round-peaked mountains. Thirty-six individual peaks in all make up the region and inspire its name, a word from the Pitjantjatjara aboriginal group's language meaning "many heads."
The Pitjantjatjara tribe, who often call themselves the Anangu, own the park containing Kata Tjuta and manage it with the Australian government. The site is sacred to the Aboriginal peoples- so much so that the reasons for its importance cannot be revealed under Anangu law and a select few of its areas are restricted to non-Anangu visitors.
Plenty of activities are available to those drawn to the area while on a tour of Australia. Visitors can watch the awe-inspiring Australian sunset in a special viewing area. Walks through the Walpa Gorge and Valley of the Winds showcase the unique desert landscape, which cannot be photographed commercially on the latter walk.
