AUSTRALIA TOURS

The Gondwana rainforests of Australia are famous for their waterfalls. Hear the roar of Gondwana's rainforest waterfalls

The lush Gondwana rainforests are a great destination for both families and thrill-seekers on tours of Australia.

Located in Queensland, the forests are a land-locked version of the Galapagos Islands, because many kinds of plants and animals - like the pouched frog - evolved in unique ways after Australia broke away from the prehistoric supercontinent of Gondwana.

Treks through the forest can be educational, as guides point out how the ecosystems have developed, but hikes are also incredibly scenic. The Gondwana forests are famous for their abundant waterfalls. One of the most spectacular, Purlingbrook Falls, cascades 300 feet down a rock face. Intrepid visitors can clamber down to the gorge and walk into the cavern behind the waterfall.

The Gondwana forests are divided into four national parks. Mt. Barney National Park is named for an imposing 4,440-foot peak that many serious rock climbers and mountaineers find an irresistible challenge. Those who want a more sedate excursion can go on a walking tour.

If you're driving to the famous Binna Burra guesthouse in Lamington National Park, home of Purlingbrook Falls, you should stop by the town of Beechmont if the monthly farmers' market is being held. It was named one of Queensland's best markets by the Brisbane Courier-Mail.
