AUSTRALIA TOURS

Formations of every shape and size can be found in the waters neighboring the quaint town of Mossman. Australian hospitality and outdoor adventure in Mossman

Sometimes overshadowed by the more popular traveling destination of Port Douglas, those who choose to centralize their stay in the relaxed town of Mossman will find their northeastern adventures on Australia tours all the more enjoyable.

A cape town that has long survived on its sugar crop, the down-to-earth vibe of Mossman is a welcome surprise from some of the more well-traveled towns on Australia's eastern coastline. With accommodations ranging from a number of ecologically-friendly lodge and spa combinations, as well as semi-private chalets, guests will have no problem falling asleep in this town on the edge of the northern wilderness, with the soft toots of cane trains often lulling travelers to dreamland.

Eateries in Mossman provide the best of tropical Australia, with equator-esque eats often having a unique Mossman twist. As with the rest of most eastern Australia towns, Mossman has its own gigantic visitor attraction, with a humongous silver fish found atop the Big Barramundi restaurant. Other eastern Australian towns  feature attractions such as a huge shrimp, a larger-than-life pineapple and one of the world's largest mandarin representations. Home to big burgers and hefty fruit drinks, Big Barramundi offers quintessential eats. Taking on local specialties in often weird varieties, the Papaya serves up delicious plates of crocodile wontons and sugar cane prawns.

Surrounded by three of the nation's finest outdoor destinations, nature lovers will have no shortage of plans on their travels in and around Mossman. The Mossman Gorge sits just a few miles outside of town, with its sheer walls and mesmerizing waterfalls home to some of the region's most hike-worthy sites. Boasting a number of crocodile-free swimming holes, the gorge offers one of the best places to cool off. Mossman Gorge has no shortage of wildlife, however. While there, guests should keep their eyes peeled for some lesser-known Australia wildlife, including water dragons, rat kangaroos and a variety of turtles.

Close to many of the Great Barrier Reef's top diving spots, visitors have their pick from literally dozens of locations from which to explore the world's most famous reef. Coral walls fit for Poseidon himself are found at Castle Rock, while divers can swim through coral arches and around coral columns at The Cathedral. The Three Sisters provides the opportunity to check out gray whaler sharks, who often congregate in this section of the reef, while the formations at Tongue, Opal and St. Crispin reefs remain some of the favorite spots of local and foreign divers alike.
