Pass through Hell's Gate for a fun African safari adventure

Travelers on Kenya tours can experience the thrill of an African safari while participating in a variety of fun, active adventures by visiting Hell's Gate National Park.

Hell's Gate takes it name from two red rock cliffs visitors pass through to reach the bubbling, steaming hot springs in the park. While a relaxing dip in a hot spring is one highlight of a visit to Hell's Gate, there are many other activities to choose from.

Unlike many other African parks, Hell's Gate allows visitors to hike, bike, rock climb and camp out. Fischer's Tower, a 148-foot basalt outcropping, is a favorite destination. The tower is photogenic, a great challenge for climbers and is near a campground.

The animal life in Hell's Gate is as diverse as anywhere in Africa. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, gazelles, buffalo and baboons are only some of the big game that call the park home.

Hell's Gate is one of the most fun safari hotspots in Kenya, as demonstrated by the annual wheelbarrow race. Each year, teams from Kenyan corporations gather near Fischer's Tower and race each other in wheelbarrows to raise money for a park conservation effort. In 2011, the event included a concert of Afro fusion and soul bands.
