Djibouti may be one of the tiniest, youngest and least-known nations in Africa, and stands out as a haven of stability and neutrality. It is part of the African continent, bordered to the northeast and east by the Red Sea, the southeast by Somalia, the southwest by Ethiopia and to the north by Eritrea. Much of it's coastline is white sandy beaches. Inland is semi-desert and desert and volcanic mountain ranges. This is where eerie lunar landscapes, such as Lac Abbé or the vast salt lake, Lac Assal. Djibouti offers hiking, diving, snorkelling with whale sharks and even windsurfing on wheels, or you can simply laze on a pale-sand beach in the Gulf of Tadjoura.
