Itinerary

Day 1 Quito

Quito is Ecuador’s capital and has a setting of great natural beauty, overshadowed by the volcano Pichincha with its twin peaks of Ruco and Guagua. Quito is located at 2850m (9348 ft) above sea level, so some visitors may suffer from altitude sickness during the first hours after arrival. The city has preserved much of its Spanish colonial character, the cathedral in the Plaza de la Independencia (the oldest church in South America) and the many old churches and monasteries being among the most notable instances. Also in the plaza are the Municipal Palace, the Archbishop’s Palace and the Palacio Presidencial. Many of the city’s famous churches and monasteries contain priceless examples of Spanish art and sculpture, particularly the Monasterio de San Francisco and the Jesuit church of La Compañía. Most of Quito’s colonial churches are located in the Old Town, parts of which have been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Upon arrival you will be met by our local representative who will help you locate your vehicle.

The Hotel Patio Andaluz Quito, located in the heart of historic “Quito Antiguo” and surrounded by churches, museums and national monuments, was declared Cultural Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO in 1978. The Hotel is an official National Treasure and holds centuries of history within its walls. It was part of the original Solaris (original building sites) that constituted the City of San Francisco of Quito at the time of its foundation. The hotel has a maximum capacity of a 63 guests with only 32 suites, and has fully equipped amenities throughout the hotel without sacrificing  its traditional colonial style.

Day 2 Santa Cruz Island

Enjoy a private airport transfer with a professional driver.

Take your flight from Quito to Galapagos via Guayaquil today. The flight duration is approximately 4 hours.
Please note: Flight rates and availability are subject to change until booking.

Upon arrival at Baltra Airport, you pass through an airport inspection point to insure that no foreign plants or animals are introduced to the islands. After this, a guide will meet you, help you collect your luggage, and escort you on a short bus ride to the harbor and then on board your cruise ship.

The VIP service allows you the convenience of  pre-paying the National Park Entrance Fee of USD100.00 per person. This way, when you arrive in Galapagos, the Safari Camp staff will escort you to a VIP room at the airport, so you can wait comfortably while they take care of paying the Entrance Fee.

This service also includes a private transport from the airport to the channel, from where you will  cross the narrow Itabaca Channel to Santa Cruz Island.

You will land in Baltra Airport and cross the Itabaca Channel to Santa Cruz Island. A bilingual naturalist guide will meet you and take you for a homely lunch at a farm in the highlands.

After lunch you will do a complete tour of the area where various vegetation zones and microclimates can be explored. There are a pair of pit craters & lava tunnels. You can walk in the Scalesia and Guayabillo forests and make your way to the Tortoise Reserve to observe the giant tortoises in their natural habitat as well as several bird species. Your tour will end in Galapagos Safari Camp where you can enjoy a sunset cocktail and dinner.

Galapagos Tented Camp is set on a ridge in the highlands of Santa Cruz Island, overlooking the National Park and offering magnificent views over the Pacific Ocean, the famous western & northern islands of Isabela, Santiago, Pinzón, Baltra, Rabida, Guy Fawkes and  Daphne. The stylish central lodge is perched on a hill with panoramic views from its spacious veranda. The open-plan interior draws the eye to the islands scattered on the horizon below. Relax in the lounge and bar, with their cosy fireplace. Savour the local and international dishes created by their creative chef with home-grown produce in the dining room. Guests can enjoy the tranquility of the infinity pool to cool down and observe the nature. The 55-hectare farm is rich in birdlife with finches, warbles, mockingbirds, galapagos doves, egrets and owls. Tortoises make frequent visits to the farm and are often seen in the area.

Day 4 Santa Cruz Island

A truly astounding place, the Galapagos Islands is a marine paradise, where the underwater wildlife is like no place else in the world. You can swim with the Galapagos penguins, the only equatorial penguins found in the world, or snorkel with dolphins, sea lions and marine iguanas, as they gracefully swim the waters of the Pacific in search of food.

Alternatively, if you are SCUBA certified you can replace one or both day trips for diving.

The Galapagos Islands are also often referred to as being among the most remote diving locations on the planet. Just straddling the equator, these pristine islands lie 1000 km west of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean, and form part of a national park and marine reserve. An adventurer’s dream, exploring the ocean out here is a true delight, as you come face to face with a plethora of marine life that you never knew existed, or had just seen in pictures. Exotic and mysterious, the underwater world of the Galapagos is a fascinating sight to behold. Here you can literally swim with Hammerhead sharks, a variety of rays, playful sea lions and dolphins, and a host of other bright and colorful fish that inhabit this part of the world. Turtles, penguins, moray eels, marine iguanas, and even whales can be spotted on a regular dive down under. And with great underwater visibility, the waters off the Galapagos Coast are ideal for scuba divers, whether you are a novice or an expert.

Day 5 Santa Cruz Island

Today you will be driven to the Eastern part of the island to enjoy the morning in the beautiful and pristine Garrapatero beach. Mountain bikes are available should you wish to add more activity to your trip. The contrast of mangroves, black lava, white sand, Pioneer cacti and turquoise water are a spectacle to the eye, particularly with the buzzing coastal bird life and the small lagoon near the beach which often houses pink flamingos and bahama ducks. You could have lunch at a local restaurant in Bellavista or a picnic to be laid out for you at the beach where you could also do sea kayaking. In the afternoon your naturalist guide can accompany you to the Charles Darwin Research Station in Puerto Ayora. Return to camp after the tour concludes.
