Trip Summary
Map of Itinerary
Expand [+]

Take a journey to one of the world's richest and most biodiverse wildlife meccas, the Amazon. Preclude your exploration of South America's lush, tropical rainforest-lined rivers, with a few days spent in the heart of Brazil; the boistrous Rio de Janeiro. Stand in awe beneath the renowned Christ the Redeemer statue, perched on the peak of Corvocado mountain, which looks over the city below. Travel to Manaus, a popular cosmopolitan interlude into the Amazon. From there you will board a private yacht, for 4 consecutive nights on the Amazon river system. Experience Tapajos River with blue waters, white sandy beaches and remotely; a true Carribean of the Amazon as it was described by Jacques Cousteau. Spot magnificent wildlife along the water's edge, and watch peaceful sunsets as you drift along the rivers. Wake up to sunrises equally as beautiful, before going for a refreshing swim or making a stop on a desterted beach. Experience an unadulterated harmony with nature, far from the influence of modern man.

Itinerary

Day 1 Rio de Janeiro

Upon arrival in Rio de Janeiro and transfer to the hotel Fasano, located at the Ipanema ocean strip. After check-in, take some time to freshen up and meet with your guide in the hotel’s lobby to begin your first tour.

The reconnaissance tour is meant to ease you into your surroundings in Rio’s southern zone, and works well on the day of your arrival. Start from your hotel and go, accompanied by your host, to the viewing platform in Leblon. Walk along Leblon beach, the most sophisticated in town, to neighbouring Ipanema. Continue by car along Ipanema and Copacabana beaches to the iconic Copacabana Palace hotel. The hotel was inaugurated in 1923 as the first large structure in Copacabana and as such stands as the starting point for the intensive development of Rio’s southern beach neighbourhoods. Last stop on the tour is the Copacabana Fort. The current structure dates from 1908, but there have been earlier structures on the site since the late 18th century. Return to your hotel with a first impression of the southern zone of Rio and its different beach environments.

Fasano Rio has a privileged corner location right along Ipanema Beach, with a postcard view to Ipanema, Leblon and Arpoador. Well situated near excellent restaurants and bars (including the chic Londra in the hotel) with everything Ipanema has to offer in a walking distance. This 5-star boutique hotel with only 81 rooms, and a member of the Leading Small Hotels of the World. Designed by Phillipe Starck this boutique hotel was inspired by the Rio de Janeiro of the 50's and 60's. The excellent restaurant Fasano Al Mare, and sophisticated Bar Londra are on the ground floor. On the penthouse you have the generous pool area and lounge with a fitness center an additional bar, with spectacular views.

Day 2 Rio de Janeiro

In the morning, go with your host to the Corcovado Mountain, where you’ll see the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer and enjoy the sweeping view from the platform on the top. Afterwards, go for a walk in the charming Santa Teresa neighbourhood and continue to the nearby Pereira da Silva favela (shanty town) to visit a unique art installation and NGO: the Morrinho Project, based on a 320m2 model of a favela cityscape. The model, much like the favelas themselves, is made out of bricks, remains and recycled material. The project started in 1997 and has been in the public eye a great deal after it represented Brazil at the Venice Biennale in 2007. Apart from the model, the value of the project lies in its social function, being a safe haven for marginalised children to play and express themselves and their reality in a creative manner. It is a one-of-a-kind visit, you'll see nothing like this in any other favela visit or art gallery in Rio. End the day with a visit to the city centre of Rio, where your host will give you a brief tour according to your wishes and interests. Afterwards, return to your hotel by car.
