Ohio is a midwestern state in the United States. Ohio's southern border is defined by the Ohio River, and much of the northern border is defined by Lake Erie. In 1783, the United States gained control of Ohio from Britain, and today the state is home to several major American cities, including Cleveland, and its capital, Columbus.
