Wailea is a census-designated place in the County of Maui, Hawaii, United States. The population was 5,671 at the 2000 census.  According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 26.8 square miles, of which, 22.6 square miles is land based and the remaining 4.2 square miles is water.  Wailea Resort is a 1,500-acre, master-planned resort located on Maui's sunny, southern leeward coast.
