Day 1
Tucson Depending on your time of arrival, you can set out to explore the Mission San Xavier del Bac today. A National Historic Landmark, San Xavier Mission was founded as a Catholic mission by Father Eusebio Kino in 1692. Construction of the current church began in 1783 and was completed in 1797. As the oldest intact European structure in Arizona, the church's interior is filled with marvelous original statuary and mural paintings. It is a place where visitors can truly step back in time and enter an authentic 18th Century space. The best way to start your experience is to begin with a 20 minute video which talks about the history of the Mission and its restoration. Then walk through the museum and look at the artifacts that give you a sense of the history and the way people lived here at the Mission. Includes daily car rental. Enjoy the first afternoon in Tucson. The Arizona Inn (4*) is a historic, boutique hotel situated on 14 acres of gardens, fountains, and manicured lawns in the heart of mid-town Tucson. Day 2
Tucson Visit the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum (admission included). This museum is a world-renowned zoo, natural history museum and botanical garden, all in one place! Its purpose is to inspire people to live in harmony with the natural world by fostering love, appreciation, and understanding of the desert as well as its flora and fauna. Exhibits re-create the natural landscape of the Sonoran Desert Region so realistically you find yourself eye-to-eye with mountain lions, prairie dogs, Gila monsters, and more. Within the Museum grounds, you will see more than 300 animal species and 1,200 kinds of plants. There are almost 2 miles of paths traversing 21 acres of beautiful desert. After visiting the museum you can choose to experience the open desert by hiking one of the trails located directly across the street or by the picnick area of the Museum. Follow one of several markings offering varied distances and degrees of difficulty; the most common and least difficult being the Brown Mountain Loop Trail which will take about two and a half hours to complete.
