Enjoy a sojourn in three of Germany's most invigorating cities - Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich. The city of Berlin has been in the midst of rapid regeneration in the last few years and in the West super-modern buildings provide a backdrop for a dynamic and cosmopolitan city that has a distinctly new millennial outlook. The East, meanwhile, is a model of twenty-first century urban development - the grey communist concrete has been replaced with gleaming new structures that look to the city's future rather than dwelling on the past. Continue your tour with famous Frankfurt. Enjoy a walking tour in the old town with personal guide. Continue to the capital of Bavaria, Munich, which proudly retains the air of a traditional German city, where you can appreciate the Bavarian architecture of the Frauenkirche, Marienplatz and the old town, the baroque magnificence of the Schloss Nymphenburg as well as the modern expanse of the Olympia park, an icon of post-war Germany. Enjoy a scenic train ride from Berlin to Frankfurt and then to Munich, with private transport on either end of your train ride. Combining organized tours as well as giving you freedom to explore at your own pace, this is a perfect trip to immerse yourself in all three cities.

Day 1 Berlin

Say Berlin and people immediately think of the Wall, even though it is over a decade since "Die Mauer" was broken down. But Berlin has much more to offer and is growing in popularity with tourists wanting something with a bit more grit than most European destinations. The city has been in the midst of rapid regeneration in the last few years and in the West super-modern buildings provide a backdrop for a dynamic and cosmopolitan city that is distinctly new millennium in outlook. The East meanwhile is a model of twenty-first century urban development - the grey Communist concrete has been replaced with gleaming new structures that look to the city's future rather than dwelling on the past.

Day 4 Frankfurt

Boasting the only skyscraper vista in Germany, Frankfurt offers an unusual blend of high commerce and high art. It is considered a vibrant centre of business and culture, and the remnants of its old centre are juxtaposed against the most modern of office blocks, including the highest skyscraper in Europe, the Commerzbank. Although much of the city was destroyed in WWII, Frankfurt has done a lot to rebuild its reputation as a cultural centre. Even though it can't replace the medieval buildings permanently lost in the Allied bombing of the city, Frankfurt now spends more on arts than any other city in Europe. The result is a hard fought worldwide reputation as a centre for all the arts, with over 40 museums and a wonderful programme of exhibitions and performances.

From 1st Century Roman settlements to those made under the Germanic tribes, Frankfurt was to become of pivotal importance to the German-dominated Holy Roman Empire, and is where the German Kings and Emperors were coronated over a millennia ago. Despite the ravages of the Napoleonic War, Nazism and obliteration by bombing raids in WWII, Frankfurt's remarkable cultural legacy prevails, making it one of the world's most important cities. Having served as the seat of the first democratically elected German parliament, it is also the city of Goethe and home to the Frankfurt School, and is nothing less than the financial centre of the European continent. The tour includes a specialized guide and entrance fees.

Day 6 Munich

Capital of Bavaria and beer capital of Europe, Munich boasts as rich a wealth of art and architecture as any of Germany's great cities. Where Berlin and Frankfurt have entered into the spirit of modernity, Munich has retained the air of a traditional German city, and has grown in fame as keeper of Germany's folk customs and identity, full of architectural treasures from the Baroque and Renaissance period. Oktoberfest is the main festival in the city and it is mobbed with lederhosen clad Germans and foreigners, and the celebration of carnivalesque magnitude belies the world view of Germans as a staid and serious folk. Dancing, processions and fabulous masques turn the entire city into a playground as people celebrate uproariously. If the revels don't sound like your thing then stay away and visit the city another time, when you can appreciate the Bavarian architecture of the Frauenkirche, Marienplatz and the old town, the baroque magnificence of the Schloss Nymphenburg and the modern expanse of the Olympia Park, an icon of post-war Germany.
