Itinerary

Day 1 Shimla

Shimla is in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. In 1864, Shimla was declared the summer capital of the British Raj. A popular tourist destination, the city is often referred to as the "Queen of Hills". Located in north-west Himalayas at an altitude of 2,130 metres (6,988 ft), the city of Shimla, draped in forests of pine, rhododendron, and oak, experiences pleasant summers and cold, snowy winters. The city is famous for its buildings styled in tudorbethan and neo-gothic architecture reminiscent of the colonial era. Shimla is connected to the city of Kalka by one of the longest narrow gauge railway routes in India.

Airport transfer with private vehicle, driver, and English-speaking assistant.

The Shimla property, Wildflower Hall is situated in the mountains, and close to both Christ Church and State Museum. Another attraction in the area includes Viceregal Lodge. Guestrooms have minibars, complimentary newspapers, and direct-dial phones; bathrooms include bathrobes, bathroom phones, and hair dryers. The Shimla Toy Train is a galvanizing experience as one passes through the breathtaking landscapes of majestic Himalayas, tunnels/ bridges and lush green valleys embellished with pine, oak trees, leaving a long lasting memory of rhapsody and triumph. The train is one of the most unique railway tracks in the world. It is said that this railway line has been first sketched in November 1847, almost 50 years before it was actually constructed. This magnificent train was inaugurated by the British viceroy, Lord Curzon in November 1903, almost covering the distance of 96 km from Kalka through the curving tracks, up to Shimla hills- the summer capital of colonial India. The toy train trek from Kalka to Shimla is adorned with resplendent panorama of the valley and the picturesque stations along the way. The train passes through 103 tunnels, 969 bridges, 919 curves and 20 railway stations in its entire journey.
