The area known as the White Desert boasts an unbelievable amount of natural landmarks and rock formations, carved over time by passing sandstorms and wind currents. This picturesque area stretching from around Alexandria in the North, through the centrally located Bahariya Oasis, to Farafra and the Siwa Oasis in the South, represents some of Egypt's most visited and beautiful undomesticated areas. During this exploration tour, enjoy the sights and sounds of Marsa Matrouh city, Pyramid Mountain, the dunes of the Black desert, El Heiz oasis, Farafra and the Crystal Mountain, El Akabat home of the rare desert roses, the Magic Springs, Ain Khadra, the White desert caves, and the great sand sea of Bahariya. Top quality hotels provide a fantastic atmosphere for relaxation whilst in between these adventurous day tours.

NOTE; Travel in Egypt often involves early-morning starts, designed to avoid crowds and the hottest midday hours. It can be hot, especially in June, July and August, but there is virtually no humidity and evening temperatures cool off dramatically. Egypt is a moderate secular state, well used to hosting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. While you will want to avoid revealing clothing, loose shorts and short-sleeved shirts are fine for both genders

Itinerary

Day 1 Bahariya

Bahariya is an oasis town in Egypt's Western Desert. As the closest of the five Western Oases to Cairo, it serves as a jumping-off point to other destinations in the desert. Bahariya Oasis is easy to reach from Cairo (you will pass through much desert), Bahariya is in the middle of Egypt's Western Desert, about 365 km south-west of Cairo and it is the best starting point for the Black and White Desert. Set in a depression covering over 2000 sq. km., Bahariya Oasis is surrounded by black hills made up of ferruginous quartzite and dolorite. The oasis is provided with water by many springs. The most famous of these, a thermal spring with medicinal and restorative properties, comes out in the Bedouin village of Bawiti. Wildlife is plentiful, especially birds such as wheatears, Bahariya Oasis might also appeal rock hounds. Golden Mummies were discovered - 'Valley of the Mummies' is the biggest of its kind. Estimates are the four-mile strip of desert holds 5,000 - 10,000 mummies. The mummies are covered with a thin layer of gold and wearing gypsum masks. Sumptuous gilded death masks depict lifelike faces of real people, rather than stereotypical images. They were found in four tombs in the town of Bawiti in Bahariya Oasis.

Early in the morning, a private vehicle with driver and English speaking guide will pick you up from your Cairo hotel to begin this unique Romance Package Tour.  Your driver will leave Cairo, and make route along the desert roads to the Bahariya Oasis, where you will check into your hotel, before beginning the afternoon’s tours. In a 4x4 Jeep, your driver will navigate along the silky smooth sand ways to numerous landmarks and monuments including the Temple of Ain el-Muftella, a Roman Water Source, the Tomb of Bannantiu, the Temple of Alexander the Great, the Museum of Bahariya where you will find the Golden Mummies, and the English houses or 'Gebel al-Ingleez.  In the evening, enjoy dinner at the hotel.

Qasr El Bawity ecolodge is set in the middle of a lush palm grove in the heart of El Bawity, the modern capital of the Bahareya Oasis. Built and decorated in the traditional style of the oasis, the lodge proudly offers 34 rooms and 4 suites, which are large, comfortable, and elegantly decorated. Eco-friendly construction techniques of ancient Egypt were revived specifically for the building of the lodge. Each stone has been handpicked from nearby mountains and quarries. This property was built completely out of stone, with no metal or concrete, making it very authentic. Keeping with tradition and historical accuracy, only local materials and craftspeople were use and employed to create this one of a kind hotel.

Day 2 Bahariya

In the morning, you will be taken for a camel trek to the top of the Pyramid Mountain before making your way to the White desert.  On the way your guide will make stop-over’s at the Black desert, for some dune exploration.  Climb some of these magnificent dunes, rising to height over 50 meters, for spectacular scenic photo opportunities.  After, enjoy lunch at El Heiz Oasis, before beginning your trek to the next destination Farafra.  On route to Farafra you will visit the mysterious and intriguing Crystal Mountain, where you will see El Akabat, and the rare desert roses, which strangely grow in such a barren and desolate place.  Upon arrival at the White Desert, you will notice some of Mother Nature's most beautiful and natural formations.  These structures came to be as a result of the interaction of gritty sand begin tossed by the wind into larger stone formations, creating natural pieces of art spread across the desert surface.
