Day 2
Mexico City Teotihuacan arose as a new religious centre in the Mexican Highland, around the time of Christ. Although little is known about the early beginnings, archaeological data shows the next two centuries were characterized by monumental construction, during which Teotihuacan quickly became the largest and most populous urban centre in the New World. The city seems to have functioned for centuries as a well-developed urban centre until its rather sudden collapse, possibly in the seventh century. The place was called Teotihuacan by Nahuatl speakers several centuries after the city's fall, but its original name, the language and the people who built the city are still unknown. In the morning we depart the city heading to the breathtaking archaeological site of Teotihuacan. Enjoy lunch at "La Gruta"; a cave that has been transformed into a restaurant. By the afternoon, after a magnificent tour of the ruins, we return to Mexico City. Conclude the tour with a visit of the famous Guadalupe Shrine. Overnight at Nikko Mexico City. |

Chihuahua The city of Chihuahua is the state capital in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. It has a population of approximately 825,000. It has been said that the name derives from the Tarahumara language, meaning "between two waters" because it intersects the rivers Chuviscar and Sacramento. It is also the midpoint between the Río Bravo del Norte (Río Grande) and the then-important mining city of Hidalgo del Parral. Airport transfer with private vehicle and driver. Enjoy a flight onboard AeroMexico from Mexico City to Chihuahua Airport transfer with private vehicle and driver. Day 5
Creel Creel is a town in the Sierra Tarahumara of the Mexican state of Chihuahua. It is the second-largest town (after San Juanito) in the municipality of Bocoyna. Near Creel is Divisadero, perhaps the best-known overlook of the "Three Canyons" area of the Copper Canyon, as well as Basaseachic Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in Mexico. Creel was historically a logging town, although tourism has become the primary job source over the last 20 years. There are many hotels, restaurants and a number of tours into the canyons and throughout the surrounding area. Private transfer to/from train station. Enjoy a 5 hour train ride through the coppen canyon on your way to Creel. The Ferrocarril Chihuahua al Pacífico (Chihuahua-Pacific Railway), also known as El Chepe from its reporting mark CHP, or Ferrocarril Chihuahua-Pacífico is a major rail line in northwest Mexico, linking the city of Chihuahua, Chihuahua, to the city of Los Mochis, Sinaloa and its port Topolobampo. It runs 673 km (418 mi), traversing the Copper Canyon, a beautiful and rugged series of canyons that have led some to call this the most scenic railroad trip on the continent. It is both an important transportation system for locals and a draw for tourists. The tracks pass over 37 bridges and through 86 tunnels, rising as high as 2,400 m (7,900 ft) above sea level near Divisadero (the continental divide), a popular lookout spot over the canyons. Each one-way trip takes approximately 16 hours. The track also crosses over itself in order to gain elevation. Enjoy a private guided tour of the beautiful Lake Arareco, the impressive Tarahmara Caves and the Jesuit Mission. Lake Arareco is high in the mountains of the Sierra Madre Occidental in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua located about 14 kilometres south of Creel. It is a U-shaped lake, surrounded by unusual rock formations and a fragrant pine forest. A few kilometres away is a scenic canyon with the Cascada Cusárare waterfall featuring a drop of 30 m (100 feet). The Rarámuri or Tarahumara are an indigenous people of northern Mexico renowned for their long-distance running ability. Originally inhabitants in much of the state of Chihuahua, the Rarámuri retreated to the Copper Canyon in the Sierra Madre Occidental upon the arrival of Spanish explorers in the 16th century. The area of the Sierra Madre Occidental which they now inhabit is often called the Sierra Tarahumara because of their presence. The Best Western, The Lodge at Creel Hotel & Spa is your gateway to Mexico's Copper Canyon, the awesome abyss that is North America's other Grand Canyon.
