Itinerary

Day 1 Cape Town

Cape Town is the second most populous city in South Africa, famous for its harbour as well as its natural setting in the Cape floral kingdom, including such well-known landmarks as Table Mountain and Cape Point. Popular day activities include; Robben Island (Nelson Mandela's prison), Cape Point, Stellenbosch winery tour, diamond buying shops, and great white shark diving.

Upon arrival into South Africa you will be met at the door of the plane and escorted through Customs and Immigration avoiding any queues. You will also receive all of your necessary documents for your trip which contains a detailed personalized itinerary, maps, restaurant suggestions, top tips for exploring each city or region and a 24 hour concierge service (for restaurant reservations, spa treatments, child minders, day tours etc.)

Enjoy a private transfer between the airport and your hotel.

La Splendida is ideally situated on the bustling Mouille Point promenade – Cape Town’s own “platinum mile”, minutes away from the sights and sounds of fantastic beaches and bars as well as the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. The iconic hotel currently offers sea-facing and mountain-facing rooms and suites. The Café Splendida restaurant is a popular spot and the area alone offers majestic views of the one of South Africa's top cities.

Day 2 Cape Town

This morning you will be met by your guide and coach for a morning exploration of the Cape Town, known affectionately as the Mother City. Your tour will take in the Houses of Parliament, the Castle of Good Hope (built between 1666 and 1679, this is South Africa’s oldest building), lively Greenmarket Square with its daily market, the Company Gardens and of course Table Mountain which will give you spectacular views over the city and Peninsula (cable car fee is not included as it is weather dependent). On our descent, we stop at the Bo Kaap, home to the Cape Malay community, with its cobbled streets and brightly coloured houses. You will have the choice of being dropped off at the Waterfront to experience this vibrant location at your own pace, with its many shops, restaurants and pubs or at your hotel at the end of the tour.

Kruger National Park was established in 1898 to protect the wildlife of the South African Lowveld, and is nearly 2 million hectares. It is home to an impressive number of species: 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals. Man's interaction with the Lowveld environment over many centuries - from bushman rock paintings to majestic archaeological sites like Masorini and Thulamela - is very evident in the Kruger National Park.

One of the unique advantages of a small safari camp is that the activities can be tailored to your specific needs. For example, if the guides hear lions roaring close to camp at night, they will often knock on your door and ask if you would like to go and find them. In addition, if you want to only go on game drives this too can be arranged. However, a typical day at Africa on Foot would be as follows:

Guests can catch scheduled flights from Johannesburg or Cape Town to Hoedspruit Airport or Nelspruit Airport. It is only a 30 minute drive from Hoedspruit and 3 hours from Nelspruit. The camp has five chalets ensuring an intimate and personal safari experience, as well as a pool, lounge and dining area.It is part of the Greater Kruger which is over 1 million hectares of unspoilt, pristine wilderness.

Day 6 Kruger

One of the main aims of going on safari is to go on a game drive. On game drives you are able to get a lot closer to big game. The animals are generally habituated to the vehicle. This means that they are used to the vehicle approaching them and know that it never causes them harm. This enables to you to get within five to 10 metres of the large animals - and safely! All game drives are conducted in open 4 x 4 Toyota Landcruisers. No roof allows you 360 degree views, perfect for wonderful photographic and video opportunities. The afternoon game drives generally leave at 4pm and stop for sundowners, and then continue into the night drive on your way back to camp. You will be sharing the drives with other guests at the lodge.

Day 7 Kruger

The night drives allow you the opportunity to see the nocturnal animals not encountered during the day. You'll share the drives with other guests from the lodge. The night drives are part of the afternoon game drive, as dusk falls. Your chances of seeing leopard in particular are a lot higher at night and with a bit of luck you might even encounter the predators such as lion and leopard hunting. During the night drives, your tracker uses a powerful spotlight to search for nocturnal animals. Expect to see a wide variety of animals not normally seen during the day, including leopards, hyenas, aardvarks, bat-eared fox, porcupines, bush babies, bushbucks, mongoose, genet cats and nocturnal birds like owls and nightjars.
