Namibia is known for its contrasting landscapes. The Sossusvlei, Namibia's famous highlight in the heart of the Namib Desert, is a huge clay pan, enclosed by giant sand dunes. Some of the spectacular hills of sand are, at a height of 300 metres, the highest in the world. The best time to view Sossusvlei is close to sunrise and sunset; the colours are strong and constantly changing, allowing for wonderful photographic opportunities. You can also enjoy exhilarating game drives & wilderness walks exploring the grass plains and red sand dune belts of the NamibRand Nature Reserve. See rare wildlife like the oryx antelope and mountain zebra. Susussvlei also boast of magnificent desert skies idea for stargazing. Your next spot is the Skeleton Coast National Park, which is a national park located in northwest Namibia, and has the most inaccessible shores, dotted with shipwrecks. The coast is named for the bleached whale and seal bones which covered the shore when the whaling industry was still active, as well as the skeletal shipwrecks caused by rocks offshore in the fog. Visiting this coast calls to the intrepid explorer seeking only the most remote wilderness experiences on the planet. It is a wild, desolate environment, yet it supports a host of incredible adapted wildlife - from enormous colonies of Cape fur seals to the ancient welwitschia plant.

Kensington Tours donates a portion of our proceeds to our charitable initiative www.kensingtoncares.com which supports education-based initiatives in disadvantaged communities. Kulala Desert Lodge is situated within the arid Namib Desert on the 37 000ha private Kulala Wilderness Reserve, and is closest to the iconic red dunes of the Sossusvlei. Magnificent views of the famous red sand dunes of Sossusvlei, breathtaking mountain scenery and vast open plains - Kulala Desert Lodge has these in bulk. Situated on 37 000 hectares of a private wilderness area bordering the Namib Naukluft Park, there is an abundance of space and silence found here. Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, is located in a basin between the Khomas Highland, Auas and Eros Mountains. Windhoek is home to approximately two hundred thousand people, an extremely small capital by global standards. tourists comment on the cleanliness of the city, and often pronounce Windhoek to be a most un-African city. The Windhoek city centre is characterised by a proliferation of German style buildings, a lasting reminder of Namibia's early colonial history. It is a flight gateway to the rest of the country.

Day 5
Skeleton Coast Enjoy lunch (included in tour price). Activities at Skeleton Coast Camp revolve around the exploration of this unique, wild and desolate environment in 4x4s that are closed to the elements, although all vehicles have pop-top roofs and sliding windows to enjoy the fine weather come midday. There is plenty of opportunity to stretch the legs too, with many parts in this pristine setting accessible only on foot, as vehicle tracks can damage the environment. Many specially-adapted plant species such as Lithops and Welwitschia can only be visited in this way. Extended walks with a picnic lunch, returning to camp in the evening, are incredibly popular.
Enjoy dinner (included in tour price). Skeleton Coast Camp calls to the intrepid explorer seeking only the most remote wilderness experiences on the planet. The camp is aptly named, with its stark, incredibly beautiful shoreline dotted with bleached whalebones and other skeletal remains, as well as a host of shipwrecks. It is a wild, desolate environment, yet it supports a host of incredible adapted wildlife - from enormous colonies of Cape fur seals to the ancient welwitschia plant. Skeleton Coast Camp won the category for Best Overall Environmental Management System at the 2007 Imvelo Awards for Responsible Tourism for its minimal impact on the ecosystem here. The Skeleton Coast is the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean coast of Namibia and south of Angola from the Kunene River south to the Swakop River, although the name is sometimes used to describe the entire Namib Desert coast. The Bushmen of the Namibian interior called the region "The Land God Made in Anger", while Portuguese sailors once referred to it as "The Gates of Hell".The coast is named for the bleached whale and seal bones which covered the shore when the whaling industry was still active, as well as the skeletal shipwrecks caused by rocks offshore in the fog. More than a thousand vessels of various sizes and areas litter the coast.
